Kit de Waal at London Short Story Festival, plus other KdW news!

Kit de Waal (Mandy) is scheduled to appear at the London Short Story Festival on Saturday 21st June 2014 at 12pm. The venue is Waterstones, Piccadilly. She says she will be reading her story from ‘The Sea in Birmingham’. Update 23rd June 2014: Picture of Mandy at the festival below.

Further news for Kit de Waal: after getting runner-up spot in the Costa award (see Feb 3rd entry below), she achieved the same second spot in the Bath Short Story award 2014. That was in June, in July she was longlisted for The SI Leeds Literary Award. What’s going to happen next month?

Updated again July 16th: No, we didn’t have to wait a month, just a matter of days to hear that Mandy has been longlisted for another prize: The 2014 Bristol Short Story Prize.

Free anthology launch event draws near

SatelliteThe launch of the new Tindal Street Fiction Group anthology – The Sea in Birmingham – draws near. The event is being held at the new Library of Birmingham and hosted by Birmingham Literature Festival and supported by Writing West Midlands. 160 people have already booked for the event but there are some spaces left and the Tindal Street Fiction Group writers would love to see you there.

There will be an opening speech from eminent playwright David Edgar, followed by an introduction from the editors, Gaynor Arnold and Julia Bell, as well as readings from some of the authors and a Q&A.
